Well fresh Start as All others Said Well Having My Character (The only 1 i Use) is fun and still fun Ill miss the poor Fellow but Who said His childrens chidlren wont be as good so me is looking forward to Gw 2 and glad My char worked for his kin
So Guild Wars II means I'm supposed to give up Guild Wars? Why? I mean, I still play Morrowind even though I own Oblivion...why shouldn't I? I will play GW as long as there are things to keep me entertained. Titles I can take or leave...I play for the story, exploration and company of other players...I have explored every square inch of the three games and completed every mission and bonus...now I'm working on doing the same in GWEN. When I finish, I will putter around from time to time doing whatever I want...I may play another game if I find it tedious, but I'll be back when I'm done.
I'm seriously considering a pay-to-play game: Age of Conan, to get me by while I wait for GW2 (after all...we're talking YEARS before we see it)...I'll always be a GW fan, even if there have been changes that I might not really care for...HoM...erm...Not exactly what I hoped it would be, but then the devs didn't HAVE to even try to make a transition between games...can't think of any games with that effort put into them.
All the whiners are gonna whine anyway...I'd have skipped it and played a Gwen of Destruction sequence like at the end of beta, shut the servers off and said "Get over it, GW is dead.....come play GW2" and not given anyone the choice...(personally, I think they are being too nice) At least there is an effort being made to make it easier. Can you imagine WoW comming out with WoW2? Think they would even make an effort to improve the game and graphics if they weren't cashing in on subscriptions?
GW2 is going to provide us with more of what we want, and I'm sure, things we don't...the bottom line for the players will be more choice, more/new content, better graphics, improved game mechanics...why bitch that Ubar McScuba, your favorite Wammo, won't be able to translate into a new game with the same old stuff? Do you really want the same tired old armor and weapons in a new game with better graphics rendering? It would be laughable as one of those cartoony WoW characters trying to blend in in Lion's Arch..."Hey, look at the dude with the tiny head!"
The long and short of it comes down to this: GW is a great game. GW2 holds the promise of being better than GW. If you plan on buying/playing GW2, why do you even care about any changes to GW that relate to GW2? NOTHING (no item, no title, no armor, no character) in GW is so great that it needs to find its way to the new game...GW lore is all you need to make sense of the new game...the rest is just "stuff".
Will GW2 kill GW? No more than a child kills their parents...ask King Oedipus, he's wise enough to know the answer.

so my friends were talking and it said that in gw2 you cant proceed with your character from the series (prophicies, factions, nightfall). so im just wondering for people who had there characters from the very begining give them up for gw 2?
The key word here is worked. I haven't worked for anything in GW, I played a game and got things for playing and having fun. When GW is released I will do they same thing and continue to have fun.
I know one thing I can't give up: beating the dead horse!
You can't continue your GW1 characters because the servers between GW1 and GW2 would be incompatable. That's what the Hall of Monuments is for (which failed miserably).
So, you know how the things you got in HoM will affect GW2?
I think if it failed or not can't be assumed before you see how it works out in GW2.
I'm not upset that I can't use my Barret from FF7 when I play GW.
I'm not upset that I can't use my Assassin from Diablo 2 in Halo.
Why would I be upset about not being able to use my GW characters in another game?
IMO, they shouldn't have even added the HoM.
Ever played any of the DND based RPGs? Import characters.
Annd the games you mentioned have little or nothing to do with each other. GW2 is a GW sequel and IT IS MADE BY THE SAME COMPANY.
What they needed was not a new game, what they needed was to sit down and evaluate what the !%@$ they have been doing all these years and bring back SKill > Time and delete all the retarded titles. They needed to rethink some of the classes and stop adding them. They needed to find better ways to amuse their customers other than providing reskined armors and weapons that have the same stats. They needed to realize their newly-added grinds suck. If they wanted to add grinding, they should have made a huge level cap and made XP hard to come. Yeah, grinding for levels sound like it sucks, but guess how many players play WOW compared to GW?

So that we can just keep playing the exact same game, with different reskins every 6 months? That sounds really fun.
There is only so much you can do. If they add 5000 new monsters, what will change? They will just be the same as the previous monsters we have fought. They will still use the skills the same. They will still die the same. All the campaigns are the exact same thing.
Maybe newer players would be content with just getting the same thing over and over, but the majority of people want something interesting. And the same gameplay with a different look isn't any more interesting.
Prophecies, kept interest for almost a year
Factions, kept interest for about 3 months
Nightfall kept interest for a little over a month
GW:EN kept interest for 2 weeks.
Are you saying that if they keep up this process that they are going to stay in business?

Yes, I agree. Hoepfully, the current "grind" in Guild Wars is a result of just tacking on incentive based rewards (asked for by some Guild Wars players); and that Guild Wars 2 will have a much better implemented reward system for time played.
Heck, the fact they are raising the level cap will do wonders to increase GW2 popularity. As I said in another thread, I have no idea if I personally will enjoy Guild Wars 2, but I can't blame Anet for wanting more money, and, to be honest, it can't be worse than some of the other MMORPGS currently in the market.

I login, and always become depressed by your posts.
And yet, your correct.

rofl That cookie deal was hilarious. Okay, now back on topic:
Personally I don't want to give up my Guild Wars 1 things. I've worked hard for them and still have lots of characters to get through. But Guild Wars 2 will be fun as well. Something new that doesn't get boring from doing it all the time. Then after that, Guild Wars 1 will probably be like new again. hehe So I'll probably go back and forth between the tw.
Like in todays world cryogenetic suspension in other word frozen state. For me I wouldn't know yet as it is 2 yrs away and Star Trek Online may become free online game.I would give everyone advice for playing GW2 don't give in to what Anet wants you to do like more grind and forget about all the sets of 15k armour as well as gold weapons those with great looking skins.Don't be sold on the glamour of the game just play and lvl in GW2 and be done with it.I would forget about farming and runnig as well as builds just play the game.

Guild Wars 2 is set 250 years into the future of the world... No res shrine or healing skill can keep a person youthful, let alone alive for TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY BLOODY YEARS!!!
I always though you could get around that by saying ascension or we no san (sp?) made you a near immortal would work.

If it is indeed like that for you, why are you still here?
Same exact reason, you don't want to feel last out after you invested so much money into GW. That is how Anet tries to keep you in. This game is no longer fun for you, it is now your JOB to play it and you don't want to let it go to waste.
If I am going to get stuff in GW2 for what I GRINDED in GW1, why don't we just import/export characters? It's the same concept anyway.
Oh wait, I get it, because GW1 is GW, and GW2 is WoW. Character import/export would change too much things. Hmm...

Actually, I play GW much like most people play MSN Messenger. I post on these forums because I do in fact love the game, but it is still boring.

It is boring to play because there is nothing left for long-time players like us other than grind titles, which is worse than grinding levels. This is why we need new contents. Not a whole new chapter, we don't need more crappy, overused storyline with boring implements like complicated (relatively speaking) new classes with more reskined armor and weapons.
Then again, we already paid enough money to Anet so it doesn't matter whether we stay or not. Titles are just here to keep those hardcore players long enough to play GW2.
